XERNOX SECURITY is aware of third-party websites and automated search results making serious claims that XERNOX SHIELD is malicious software or is pretending to be antivirus software.
We strongly dispute these claims. XERNOX SHIELD is cybersecurity software developed by XERNOX SECURITY LLC to detect, block, and remove malicious software from Windows computers.
Some of these allegations appear to originate from automated malware-analysis systems and third-party posts. Security software such as XERNOX SHIELD performs advanced system operations—including analyzing processes, inspecting files, detecting suspicious behavior, and stopping threats—that automated systems can potentially classify as suspicious.
An automated detection should not automatically be treated as proof that software is malware.
We are especially concerned that these third-party reports have been repeated or summarized in ways that we believe misrepresent our company and product.
For example, a Google AI Overview characterized negative information about XERNOX SHIELD as a “Community Consensus.” However, the BleepingComputer discussion we identified consisted of a single user asking whether XERNOX SHIELD could be trusted and, at the time we reviewed it, showed zero replies.
The Impact on XERNOX SECURITY
For a startup cybersecurity company, reputation and customer trust are critical.
We believe these claims have caused significant damage to the XERNOX SECURITY brand and may have discouraged potential customers from trying XERNOX SHIELD during an important period in our company's growth.
We are preserving evidence concerning these publications, search results, automated reports, and their potential impact on our business.
We Are Preparing to Seek Legal Counsel
XERNOX SECURITY is preparing to seek legal counsel regarding false or misleading factual claims made about our company and software.
We are also investigating where these claims originated and how they have been repeated online. We have not concluded that any particular competitor or organization is responsible, and we will allow the evidence and appropriate legal process to determine that.
Where actionable false statements can be established, we intend to discuss appropriate legal remedies with counsel and take the necessary steps to protect and clear the XERNOX SECURITY name.
We welcome legitimate cybersecurity research and criticism. If a researcher discovers a genuine problem with XERNOX SHIELD, we want to know about it.
What we strongly oppose is legitimate security functionality or automated sandbox results being transformed into unsupported claims that XERNOX SECURITY distributes malware or that XERNOX SHIELD is fake antivirus software.
